These washers are great problem solvers!
For
example, thread tolerances on lathes are not very strict, and therefore you
might encounter problems when installing a new chuck on the head stock of your
lathe.
Here's why:
- It is critical that chuck not bottom out on the
threads but should be snug against the flat of the headstock.
- If your
chuck does not bottom out on the flat, you need to insert something that is
quite precision that will allow this to happen or else you will encounter wobble,
and any wobble, no matter how small will cause problems.
- These precision molded
washers will solve this problem, as well as making the problem of removing the
chuck from a metal-to-metal contact which can make the chucks very difficult to
remove.
- It would be a good idea to have one or more of these for every lathe in
your shop.
